about
chuck nicklow
I've worked in a variety of production and post production capacities since getting into college radio and public access television in the late 1980's. It's through those vehicles I gained a love for editing both video and sound.

In the 90's I spent time playing guitar in the local band scene, doing mind bending visuals for raves and night clubs, and shooting basketball games for WAPS in Akron, Ohio. I worked as a manager at a costume shop while attending the University of Akron.

Moving to California in 2000, I found work as a lead Audio Visual Technician with PSAV, while freelancing as an editor and eye candy projectionist.

In 2003 I found myself as the operator of Costumes on Haight, a position I'd enjoy filling for 14 years. I never lost my love for video production, and freelanced regularly as a camera operator for rock concerts and festivals. Some of the most well known artists I've shot over the years include The Dave Matthews Band, The Grateful Dead, The Black Crowes, and Metallica.

Most recently, I've returned to video editing and motion graphics. I'd taken several levels of instruction at BAVC in 2003, and updated my skills at San Francisco City College in 2017. While there, I enjoyed producing, shooting, and directing live stream broadcasts of their basketball and football home games. I also spent a little time at CCSF as a peer mentor in video production, and tutored students needing help with their Premiere, After Effects, and ProTools projects.

About those skills... three words say a lot: versatility, competence, and professionalism.

While Premiere is my bread and butter NLE, I've had training and am comfortable in Final Cut Pro and Davinci Resolve. Highly proficient in After Effects, I love working with motion graphics. As a musician with experience shooting and directing multicams, producing eye bending visuals, and working with a variety of DAWs (ProTools, Reason, Logic), my toolbox and mindset are well suited for editing music videos and snappy commercials.
